Ghaiyyath coninues to impress me as the best of the 2nd season sires with his first crop showing good improvement so far in 2025. He only had one black type performer in 2024 but so far he has added 5 more this year which doesn't surprise me given he was a 10-12f horse himself and that he is also quite a big unit at 16.2 hands. Mandanaba is probably his best offspring to date having come 3rd in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches after winning a G3 in France. Other smart performers include dual Listed winner Opera Ballo as well as French Listed winner Al Uqda and El Padre who won a Listed in the USA. His 1st crop offspring went up from an average of 71.8 to 75.8 up until 10 August and 70% of his first crop have run to date.
His 2nd crop have also started well with an average rating of 69.9 from slightly inferior mares. No stakes performers yet but that will come and yesterday debutante Rose Ghaiyyath won a valuable Arqana Series race at Deauville which is a good sign for the future.
As I indicated in my post in January, this group of sires doesn't impress me too much overall although it is early days. Of the rest, Pinatubo has done well with 3 more stakes performers to add to the 5 he achieved in 2024 which gives him an overall black type to runners % of 10.7%. That is the best of this group with Ghaiyyath at 8.5%. He has had 3 BT winners being G3 winner Hallelujah U, French G2 winner Qilin Queen and Listed winner Croquis. His offspring have improved on average 3.4lbs this year to 76.4 which is a bit better than Ghaiyyath but there again the mares he covered were on average 7lbs better. His 2nd crop is inferior to Ghaiyyath's and as he was such a good 2yo performer himself as well as a 7 to 8f performer, that is a slight concern especially considering again he covered better mares.
Finally I'd say that Mohaather has done quite well with his 1st crop although the 2nd crop is a bit slower off the mark. He has had 4 stakes performers to date but they were all in 2024 from his 1st crop so that needs to pick up a bit from here. Double G3 winner Big Mojo has been his best to date followed by G2 placed Serving With Style and Listed winner Ya Mo Be There as well as German Listed winner Merveilleux Lapin. Of the rest, Arizona has been shipped off to Turkey and Sottsass to Japan although I wouldn't write off the latter just yet. The others need to pick up strongly in the next few months or I expect a few more will be off to other bases.
In conclusion, Ghaiyyath is the one for me from this cohort of sires and he is standing at a reasonable fee of €20k considering his own performances on the track and his offsprings' performances to date.
