Zawiyah at Manor House Farm Stud 2015Zawiyah at Manor House Farm Stud 2015Zawiyah (2011 mare by Invincible Spirit out of Marju 1998 mare Marika) ran to a rating of 84 over 6 and 7f and perhaps should have achieved more on the track. Whatever, an imposing mare, she is part of a very lively family and we have great hopes for her.

Unfortunately she slipped her first foal to Excelebration although she has recovered well and in good health. She has produced a lovely colt foal to Kyllachy in January 2017 and followed up with another strong looking colt in January 2018 by 2017 first season sire Twilight Son. He subsequently sold to Cheveley Park Stud at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale 2019 for £26,000. Zawiyah then foaled a filly by Equiano followed by another filly by Twilight Son in 2020 and is in foal again to the same sire.

Her mother Marika (out of a Northfields mare) was a listed winner over 6f (the Cecil Frail) and has produced seven winners including French listed winner and Group 3 placed Sabratah who is now a broodmare. Sabratah has a five year old colt by Dubawi called Muttrah Fort who races in France and has won three races and over €100k for his owners. She also has a three year old colt by Frankel called Syrtis who won his first race and then came second in a Group 3 at Chantilly in Oct 2018 and is rated 103. Next comes a two year old colt by Frankel sold for €600,000 at the Arqana Yearling Sale in August 2018. Marika also has Folly Lodge, International Love and La Sibilla as active broodmares but is still active herself and has a five year old Lawman mare called Mitigate who ran out an easy four length winner of her maiden in February 2017. She was covered by Lethal Force in 2018 and was sold to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand for 50,000 guineas in Dec 2018. She also has a 2015 gelding by Intello called Nordic Lights (who sold at the 2017 Newmarket Craven breeze up sale for 575k guineas bought by Godolphin has won three races and is rated 109), a Charm Spirit 2016 colt called Kick On, who ran a very promising 2nd on debut before impressively winning his second race at Newmarket, a Kingman 2017 colt and another colt by Oasis Dream in 2018 before re-visiting Intello. Kick On ran well in the Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster in October being beaten only 3 lengths or so and was running on well at the line. Nordic Lights is trained by Charlie Appleby and running in Dubai early 2019 where he won after a good second on his re-appearance. He looks sure to be elevated to stakes races. She also has 2012 colt Raw Impulse (by Makfi) who was lightly raced in the UK but won a race in 2015 and reached a rating of 90 before being exported to Australia where he won first time out over 7.5f in March 2016 and followed up by winning his next two races at Caulfield for a hat trick of wins and over Aus$100k winnings. After a winter break he gained black type in September 2016 by winning a Listed race over 9f by five lengths and has since moved out to NZ.

Twilight Son x Zawiyah 2018 colt at four months oldTwilight Son x Zawiyah 2018 colt at four months oldMarika's half sisters Neshla (2003 mare by Singspiel) and Sell Out (2004 mare by Act One) are doing well as broodmares. Neshla has a Poet's Voice 2014 colt called Volatile who has won four races, been listed placed and rated as high as 98 at one time. She also has a 2015 colt by Pivotal called Definition, an Exceed And Excel 2016 colt, a Night of Thunder 2017 filly, a Showcasing filly in 2017 and was not covered in 2018. Her first foal Wahylah (2009 mare by Shamardal) has also gone to the paddocks and has a 2014 colt by Dalakhani called Mesbaar who sold for 105,000 guineas, a 2015 filly by Pivotal, a 2016 colt by Exceed and Excel called Attainment (who has won as a 2yo), a 2017 filly by Oasis Dream, a 2018 filly by Showcasing before visiting Postponed in 2018. Sell Out has a 107 rated 2012 gelding Landwade Lad who is now in the USA, a 2014 filly by Holy Roman Emperor called Finale who won twice in 2017 and again in 2018, a 2015 filly by Dutch Art called Bella Ragazza who has won three races and is rated 96, a 2016 colt by Showcasing called Showout who was touched off on his debut before following up with a couple of wins and then winning a Listed race in France (disqualified from 1st place but subsequently re-instated as winner), is rated 101 and looks a useful prospect. Sell Out has a colt by Territories in 2018 and was covered by Time Test. Apart from these half sisters there are a multitude of daughters of half sisters active as broodmares who can keep the page moving as well as sire Best Of The Bests (1997 horse by Machiavellian out of Marika half sister Sueboog who won a Group 3 and was 4th in both the Dewhurst and The Oaks). He won the Group 1 Prix d'Ispahan and stands in Canada.

All in all a very active family with plenty of black type and a number of promising broodmares out and about. Definitely a family to be invested in.
